Task
Congress mandated that NSF provide reports on its accomplishments in
broadening the number and diversity of the country’s science and
engineering workforce. C&A conducted a comprehensive review and
analysis of NSF’s policies and programs since 1980 to increase
underrepresented entrants to science and engineering professions, designed,
developed and produced a report entitled, “Broadening Participation
in America’s Science and Engineering Workforce.” (2004-2005)

Outcome/Impact
The report filled an information gap and significantly contributed to
the national dialogue on strategies for improving the country’s
science and engineering workforce. It also reaffirmed the importance
of the CEOSE and its mission to monitor and foster increased participation
of underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
